Niche nonfiction books that dads are still likely to enjoy that either 1) are not military history at all or 2) a niche area of a war that is not military history

I didn't realize how rare reading dads were! My dad and his CIA spy thrillers are a large influence of why I'm such a reader—he always had a book growing up!

I’ve never seen my dad hold a book once 🥲
honestly big shoutout to my dad, him and his thrillers are actually what first got me into reading hehe
Stop that's so cute!! I love him! Have y'all ever buddy read a thriller?
that would actually be so cute, but he takes months to read a single book 😭 my tbr can’t wait that long
omg omg omg min!!! make him read it to you like a bedtime story or while you're doing something else that would be so cute and then you don't have to get very involved, esp if you pick one you weren't interested in before 🥹
My dad just started reading for fun in 2024. I don't think I saw him pick up a book before then lol 🤣 He definitely was still reading sports articles on his phone tho. He keeps asking me for recommendations, which means a lot. 🥹🫶
Character progression omg we love to see it! Plus he knows how to work his phone? He's a unicorn. + I think I would die of happiness if my father ever asked me for a book rec but I think he would rather die than read fiction or the kind of nonfiction i like 😂
It was truly amazing to see. Especially because his goal was to read 1 book in 2024 and he read 5! 🥳 I think he's on his phone more than me LMAO 😂 See, that's the struggle cause I don't know a lot of books that I think he would like. I need to start reading more sports non-fiction and adult mysteries/sci-fi so I can get more recs. 👀
Stoppp omg he did so well!! ooh he likes those huh? does he happen to like basketball? 👀
He does like basketball. Do you have a rec for that? 👀
oooh yes!! Allen Iverson just recently put out a memoir that I've been considering picking up. I don't know if it's actually good, but I love Allen Iverson so I'm halfway to buying it regardless 🤭 it's called Misunderstood.
Ooh, interesting. I'll have to see. I'm not sure he's as interested in memoirs tbh but that does sound interesting. :)
Damn lemme look and see if there are any others I've been interested in... what about The Back Roads to March by John Feinstein? I don't remember what interested me about it but I know it exists 😂
Ok, yep. That sounds perfect for him 🙂↕️🫡
I had the same thought. My father buys books sometimes, but be never reads them 🥲
My reaction exactly 😭
My dad has a whole wall of books but I haven't seen him pick a single one up since I was a child—the dust is insane😂
If you saw me struggling to post this no you didn’t
my dad reads equal to the amount of doing his “own research” 🙂↕️
and how much research does he do bill? 🤔
not fucking enough 🫡
No wonder you had to become the progeny of bill—the research burden falls on your shoulders 😩
the description is so specific and i'm here for it lmao
My dad is so boring, he reads biographies about people like Alexander Hamilton and Mark Twain and way too much WW2 history stuff. Thank you for the list to help give his reading some life!
wait this is perfect i’m gonna get my dad one of these for his bday
My dad approves 🫡
I think The Boys in the Boat would be a good fit for this list. My dad really enjoyed it and he doesn't read a lot lol 😂🙂↕️
this is such a good dad book lol all dads love this book
Oh also! I got him to read Seabiscuit now so that could be a good addition as well :)
I am grateful my dad has always been a big reader of fantasy and sci fi and he encouraged my reading growing up! Sadly he won’t benefit from this list as when he isn’t reading fantasy or sci-fi, he prefers to stick to other fiction genres like Fox entertainment and random conspiracy theories 🥲
My dad is unfortunately a lost cause , he passed on the reading genes to me and then proceeded to develop the attention span of a goldfish like "welp values instilled I can do what I want now." Regardless, he approves 🥹
I don’t have a dad type to gift any of these to but wow what a niche and correct collection
this list is perfect, not for my dad, but for my brother
Need to save this for my dad and boyfriend 🙂↕️
