I have fallen asleep twice already in chapter 1. This does not bode well for me and this book. 😴😂

I was hesitant to start this one. I just didn’t see how it would interest me. But here I am devouring each section. It is such an interesting look at language, societies, governing bodies, and protest. I am curious to see how the writing changes as it continues.

Okay, given the content warnings, I'm shocked I'm saying "d'awww!" so often. The way Rowan named his restaurant 🥹 the conversations between Sloane and Lark. Not just the romantic relationships, but the friendships and family connections are really lovely.
And these two! 😍😍😍 Like... they're both such huge dorks. Socially awkward piles of nerves who can also literally kill somebody. Several somebodies. Happily. The cognitive dissonance is wonderful.

I don't normally go for this kind of genre but, so far I'm not hating the experience.
For those who read mysteries like this, do you try and solve it as you read? Or do you just go with the flow and see where the story takes you?

I loved both Warrior Girl Unearthed and Fire Keepers Daughter. Does anyone have recommendations for ya novels with similar themes? Fierce indigenous protagonists tackling complicated topics?
