    i've heard nothing but incredible things about this book and honestly i wasn't that impressed. i'm not big on poetry in general, and this reads as a poem restructred as prose, so i suspect that that's the root of my issue. the world building and lore are basically nonexistent, so the plot (if you can even call it that) is rather confusing. this forces the reader to focus their attention on the relationship between red and blue, which SHOULD be the center of the novel anyway so this isn't a bad thing. i just wasn't a big fan of reading flowery poetic love letters for 200 pages without much plot, especially since a lot of the language either got stale and repetitive or was overly inaccessible due to references to times and places that don't actually exist
