Jaci Burton

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

For Barrett Cassidy, playing defense for the Tampa Hawks is a dream come true. And now he may have discovered his dream woman. Harmony Evans, once the sweet, gawky teenage sister of his best friend and teammate, has grown into a smart, gorgeous woman with moves he finds hard to resist. But he knows he can't get involved with his best friend's sister--it's guy code. Harmony has always gone after what she wants with single-minded determination, from her independence to her education to her career in interior design. She never expected her youthful crush on Barrett to develop into something deeper. And she's not about to let some ridiculous man rules or her brother stand in her way. When the chemistry is this combustible, lines tend to get crossed. And when Barrett and Harmony's secret gets out, it just might be game over . . .Contains mature themes.

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

I have read quite a few books lately that are either just not holding my attention or annoying me. I don't know if that's me, some sort of funk I'm in, or bad choice in reading material. What bummed me out about this book is that the last couple of books in the Play-by-Play series haven't been up to what I expect from this author.

I actually disliked the heroine, Harmony, until almost halfway through the book. Well, that's not exactly true. I liked her in the first chapter. After that, I really had a hard time not viewing her as conceited. I think the intent was for her to come across as confident, but it was really hard for me to see her that way. And it seemed every time I thought she was growing on me, she would say or do something to remind me of why I wasn't liking her. It's really hard to get into a book when you don't like the main character.

Now, I loved Barrett in this book. And honestly, I don't feel he did anything wrong. There's a point in the story that Harmony says something about being his "dirty little secret". Yet, when they first got together, she basically told him it was just sex. It was her way of getting what she wanted without him worrying about her brother. Then she throws it back in his face. How ridiculous! Sometimes I wanted to yell at Barrett to run the other way because I felt he was often making concessions for her and not getting any in return. (Beside the secret keeping)

I was glad Jaci Burton reined in the ribbing amongst the Cassidy clan to a more digestible amount. They still had their sibling rivalry and jabs but it wasn't to an annoying amount like it was in a previous book.

That all being said, I was intrigued by the little bit of Flynn and Amelia we got to see when Barrett visited his brother in San Francisco. I'm glad there story will be the next told. I only hope the chemistry and personality I saw from them in this book carries over.

not one of my favorite Play-by-play novels. the sex scenes were good but the story itself didn't fully do it for me.
