Hazel stands at a crossroads. She and the remaining crew of the Argo II could return home with the Athena Parthenos statue and try to stop Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter from going to war. Or they could continue their quest to find the House of Hades, where they might be able to open the Doors of Death, rescue their friends Percy and Annabeth from Tartarus, and prevent monsters from being reincarnated in the mortal world. Whichever road they decide to take, they have to hurry, because time is running out. Gaea, the bloodthirsty Earth Mother, has set the date of August 1 for her rise to power. Annabeth and Percy are overwhelmed. How will the two of them make it through Tartarus? Starving, thirsty, and in pain, they are barely able to stumble on in the dark and poisonous landscape that holds new horrors at every turn. They have no way of locating the Doors of Death. Even if they did, a legion of Gaea's strongest monsters guards the Doors on the Tartarus side. Annabeth and Percy can't exactly launch a frontal assault. Despite the terrible odds, Hazel, Annabeth, Percy, and the other demigods of the prophecy know that there is only one choice: to attempt the impossible. Not just for themselves, but for everyone they love. Even though love can be the riskiest choice of all. Join the demigods as they face their biggest challenges yet in The House of Hades, the hair-raising penultimate book in the best-selling Heroes of Olympus series.

So I finished The House of Hades two days ago. I don't want to say I was underwhelmed, but I think I hyped myself up for this one. I mean, the house of Hades, Tartarus, all that crap. I think I thought I would like it more than The Son of Neptune... and I didn't.

In The Mark of Athena, Percy and Annabeth slide into Tartarus, seemingly lost forever. Their friends mourn them, but know they must keep going on with their quest to unite the demigods and get rid of the giants and Gaea.

They go on a lot of adventures (both parties). They meet a lot of people and monsters and giants, etc etc.

    Things that I remember:
-Leo falls in love with Calypso (which is super adorable, and I AM SO GLAD SHE'S BACK BECAUSE)
-Tartarus. Riordan's description of certain monsters and how Tartarus itself was like, a giant body, was super gross. But I still wanted more. I felt my eyes just reading words and not comprehending a lot of things. I know these are middle grades...but as the books go on, so should the reading level... merp
-Bob the Titan. Totally forgot about him. Can't even remember which book he was previously in. I also enjoyed Small Bob.
-Nico's secret. I actually spoiled this for myself earlier in the series by reading up on Riordan's website. I'm not too upset. He's trying to cover all bases. And it TOTALLY MAKES ALL THE SENSE why he's so angry and terrible sometimes. I do like Nico a lot. I hope he gets less...angsty in the last book.
    -GO FRANK
    -GO HAZEL
-Piper and Jason still don't do anything for me as characters. They're very flat. I still think Piper is the weakest out of the group. Them as a couple is like why is this happening. I don't know what the deal is. Not everyone has to be put together as a couple (although, it does make sense for the prophecy). I think that Jason should be single and Piper should either date someone else or learn to live on her own. Jason is very stoic, and he doesn't show Piper any affection or even touch her, which is just him as a character, so I have no clue where the attraction comes from, other than that he's super hot and she obviously likes that. I DO, however, like her backstory. That's my opinion.

This book was really all over the place and I think that's because the group was separated most of the time. I thought we would get MORE, but we kind of got the same ole same ole.
