Phoebe planned to surprise her fiancé, but he was the one who had a shocking surprise for her. Hoping to reconcile with her, he gets into a car accident and dies, and in the eyes of the press, she becomes the main culprit.
The book made me reflect on whether the saying “Speak only good of the dead or say nothing at all” is truly fair—especially when it comes to justifying the deceased at the expense of blaming the survivor.
It also explores how difficult it is to love someone who has hurt a person dear to you.
