Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

The darkest taste of temptation… Fleeing from a blood oath made against her will to the tyrant king, the last place Princess Saieke expected to be trapped was in the Darkage—the land of the feared shadowed demons. Even worse, she's stuck with Archduke Drac EL Kyn—a creature of darkness and sensuality, who entices her with reckless passion. The only thing she needs from the fierce warrior is his body to further her plot, certainly not the soul-searing desire he rouses. Shadow assassin Drac must unearth the factions who murdered the dark king. Drawn by an irresistible hunger to the princess, he struggles to maintain distance from a woman who is forbidden to those of his race. As she navigates the traps laid for her by enemies, Drac must decide if he will claim Saieke as his mate or relinquish her to avoid embroiling his kingdom in war...

A pretty good paranormal romance. I did get a little bogged down in the world that was created and some of the terminology. But this was strangely similar to a vampire romance, so at the same time, it wasn’t too unfamiliar.

In this book a princess is being forced to get married to a king who she fears will take advantage of her kingdom. So her big idea to get out of the marriage is to run away and take a lover so she’ll no longer be pure. Instead, she ends up almost getting kidnapped and flees into a dark, desolate kingdom for sanctuary. She ends up meeting and falling for one of the inhabitants. However, the king who wants to marry her is desperate and won’t give her up so easy.

Spoiler alert: She does not in fact marry the king. And the king becomes the hero of book 2 in this series. Which I’m not sure I will read because I didn’t get the best first impression of the king from this book.

Anyway, after a lot of trials and tribulations, our duo get their happily ever after and we get a peek into how book 2 of the series starts. This book was interesting and took place in an interesting world. The main couple met and fell in love very quickly. This is a story about finding a mate for life. So once they fell for each other, there wasn’t much either could do about it. But they ended up making an interesting pair.
