It is also the thirteenth book in the multi-author series, Kingdom of Wolves. REAL WOLVES BITE continues . . . Just when I thought all was lost . . . my enemy saved me! My past has returned with a vengeance. And my enemies won’t stop until I’m six feet under. They close in from all sides, threatening to destroy the love I’ve found . . . and my future. And just when I think, I’m going to lose it all, the man who swore he’d end me, shows you can walk in the dark and still be an angel in disguise. I’m now on a new path, one I don’t recognize. 2 Stars, MAYBE 2.5, UNLIKELY 3, but possible after my post-read settling.

I am so disappointed by this book. It’s my least favorite so far. Explained under the spoiler

Rune was taken by Daria and had her memories erased and then taken again by Alistair. Is missing for a couple weeks while Daxon, Wilder, and Ares search for her. Ares ends up going ahead of the other two and finds her first. And does he bring her back to the other two, one of whom she is newly officially mated to? No. Instead he decides to take advantage of her memory loss and take her to his home, without even telling Daxon and Wilder, because he’s convinced there’s no other way she can possibly fall in love with him if he doesn’t get her to himself in a circumstance such as this (seems like a weak bond if that’s the case. He’s just an impatient, selfish bastard). Couldn’t just communicate with the other guys like a normal person like, “hey guys, let’s get her memories back, but once we do, I’d like to ask her to spend some time with just me, so we can get to know each other” and then take her to his home, or even take her there while they figure out her memory situation. But no, he's only thinking of himself. Doesn't even tell her there are two more men in her life. lets her think it's just him.

Anyway, I skipped this part at first, then circled back after a pep-talk. It’s almost 100 pages of Ares and a memory-less Rune falling in love while her two other mates are worried sick. LITERALLY. Daxon is dying from being away from his mate for so long. And she doesn’t even get her memories back before she sees them again. God I can’t stan Ares. At this point, I don’t know that there’s anything the author can do to make me like him. I'll still read the next book because my love for Daxon and Wilder is greater than my dislike for Ares. Plus I need to see how Wilder comes back.
