In a world supported on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown), a gleeful, explosive, wickedly eccentric expedition sets out. There's an avaricious but inept wizard, a naive tourist whose luggage moves on hundreds of dear little legs, dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course THE EDGE of the planet...
BeTrobi is a wild language. I've read this book multiple times now and I'm only just starting to understand it. For example: remarkable isn't just that in BeTrobi. A thing that is remarkable does not have a one-to-one translation. It is described *in full* as (paraphrasing) "that which will only happen once in the lifetime of a canoe which has been carved by axe and hollowed by wood and..." ((I cannot remember the rest of it!)) This is why we get to see Rincewind struggling to understand "the reflected sound of an underground spirit"... Echo... Gnome... Ics... Economics.
Finishing out the year rereading one of my favorite books. I'm listening to the audiobook this time, narrated by Colin Morgan, Peter Serafinowicz and Bill Nighy and am enjoying it immensely!
