The Raven Boys meets Ninth House in the most exciting debut of 2022 -- a dark, atmospheric fantasy about a Deaf college student with a peculiar connection to the afterlife. Delaney Meyers-Petrov is tired of being seen as fragile just because she's Deaf. So when she's accepted into a prestigious program at Godbole University that trains students to slip between parallel worlds, she's excited for the chance to prove herself. But her semester gets off to a rocky start as she faces professors who won't accommodate her disability, and a pretentious upperclassman fascinated by Delaney's unusual talents. Colton Price died when he was nine years old. Quite impossibly, he woke several weeks later at the feet of a green-eyed little girl. Now, twelve years later, Delaney Meyers-Petrov has stumbled back into his orbit, but Colton's been ordered to keep far away from the new girl... and the voices she hears calling to her from the shadows. Delaney wants to keep her distance from Colton -- she seems to be the only person on campus who finds him more arrogant than charming -- yet after a Godbole student turns up dead, she and Colton are forced to form a tenuous alliance, plummeting down a rabbit-hole of deeply buried university secrets. But Delaney and Colton discover the cost of opening the doors between worlds when they find themselves up against something old and nameless, an enemy they need to destroy before it tears them -- and their forbidden partnership -- apart.

Thank you to Netgalley for an e-ARC in return for an honest review!

More deaf MCs like this, PLEASE!!!

I've never had such a physical reaction (in a good way) to written horror like I had with this book. The tension, the dread, the writing, all just formed some wonderful horror moments.

Unfortunatly it kind of drops off with that horror and tension around halfway through, at least that's what it felt like to me. The romance and non-horror mystery ramps up a ton in the second half, which while isn't bad, it did leave me a tad dissapointed just due to the fantastic horror in the first half. There are still some great horror moments in the second half however!

I loved the general vibes though, a really neat take on magic mixed with horror honestly! I would love to see this expanded upon more as this book, unfortunatly, mainly focused on the main 2 characters and the "conspiracy" and didn't really go into what the school actually gets up to fully.

I guess in general, I kinda just really want more of this. I really want to know more about Mackenzie and Adya and their stories and more about what they get up to because it felt like they where really underused, They where awesome characters, so much personality and charm honestly! I looked forward to every scene with them!

Overall I did love this book, I ended up reading the entire first half of the book in a single setting as I just couldn't put it down until sleep overcame me aha! I do reccomend this despite my issues with it as I feel the overall plot worked well.
