Contract killer Lachlan Kane wants a quiet life working in his leather studio and forgetting all about his traumatic past. But when he botches a job for his boss’s biggest client, Lachlan knows he’ll never claw his way out of the underworld. At least, not until songbird Lark Montague offers him a deal: use his skills to hunt down a killer and she’ll find a way to secure his freedom. The catch? He has to marry her first. And they can’t stand each other. Indie singer-songwriter Lark is the sunshine and glitter that burns through every cloud and clings to every crevice that Lachlan Kane tries to hide inside. The surly older brother of her best friend’s soulmate, Lachlan thinks she’s just a privileged princess, but Lark has plenty of secrets hiding in the shadows of her bright light. With her formidable family in a tailspin and her best friend’s happiness on the line, she’s willing to make a vow to the man she’s determined to hate, no matter how tempting the broody assassin might be. As Lachlan and Lark navigate the dark world that binds them together, it becomes impossible to discern their fake marriage from a real one. But it’s not just familiar dangers that haunt them. There’s another phantom lurking on their doorstep. And this one has come for blood.
Expectation going into book 2🥴 to simply be entertained. If she follows the same equation welp then I gotta get to at least the 50% mark to enjoy it🫠 so far though it’s not bad, some cringy moments annnnd not sure if I actually enjoy this trope either but we shall see

DNF for now… maybe I’ll come back eventually? This just wasn’t what I was looking for. B&B was soooo much better imo.
2.75⭐️ This umm…was like watching a child use a magnifying glass on an ant in the summer 🫠 I didn’t like it but I liked it enough to use as background noise (minus the freaking laughing). Now I love me a grumpy man and when we were introduced to Lochlan in B&B I didn’t really have an opinion of him, ok grumpy big bro sure whatever but I felt like there was just a lot of forced character work in this book and it just didn’t work for me. Now Lark…just no, she was an annoying asshat from start to finish, almost like it was a completely different character from book 1😵💫 there were some redeeming qualities like her and her anxiety and some small character growth but overall her and Loch were just cringy AF!! Both books have this bdsm factor and sure it’s not for everyone, I enjoyed Rowan…I did not enjoy Lochlan…except the bonus chapter😎 babyyyyyyy let the freaks out the closet! I’m excited for book 3 because they seem very cute, I just hope it’s better than what we got in L&L🤦🏾♀️
