This is a lesser entry in the Sharpe series.
It still features Sharpe and Harper. It still features stupid English senior officers, dastardly French enemies, and plenty of bloodshed. Heck, it even brings back a fan-favorite trustworthy junior officer who's basically Sharpe 2.0 and adds a dashing American sea captain. But "Sharpe's Seige" feels by-the-numbers, like a contractual obligation or a grab for some easy money from fans of the series.
If you're already sixteen books into this series, of course you'll read it. If you aren't, don't start here. In a series marked with several excellent entries, this one is just o.k.
