For years Carmen Maria Machado has struggled to articulate her experiences in an abusive same-sex relationship. In this extraordinarily candid and radically inventive memoir, Machado tackles a dark and difficult subject with wit, inventiveness and an inquiring spirit, as she uses a series of narrative tropes—including classic horror themes—to create an entirely unique piece of work which is destined to become an instant classic.

Such a clever way to break my heart and put it together again. The choose your own adventure part will stay with me.
Wow. I’d like to revisit this in book form one day in an effort to mentally digest it all again but I so enjoyed hearing it narrated by the author as her delivery only added to how deeply struck I was by her writing. Incredibly raw and candid.
Really moving. Machado writes with such a unique and compelling voice. I appreciated her versatility and vulnerability. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Made me really think about the symbolism of a house and the remarkable grasp love and other human beings have on us.
