this is without a doubt a three star book because cc doesn't know how to write books that aren't overly long with unnecessary scenes that essentially detract from the plot BUT i'm rating it four stars for kit/ty and mark/kieran/cristina

At this point, I feel like Cassandra Clare could have diverged from her typical formula for shadow hunter romance. Book one-things heat up. Book two-there’s an issue why they can’t be together. Book three-issue resolves. This is the third series that I’ve read in this world, and I found myself skipping paragraphs to make the book end faster. It was enjoyable, but it wasn’t completely fresh since it followed the same pattern of TMI and TID.
Another issue I had was that there should have been a significant time jump when the main characters left Thule, not just a few seconds. When they were watching Thule in the portal 5 years passed very quickly relative to Earth time.
Now for the positive: the writing is beautiful, there are some interesting vocabulary words to describe scenes, and there are plenty of great characters that were dimensional. You definitely are taken on a journey thru the series, and a lot of unexpected things happen.
Overall, QOAAD was a good finisher for the LA branch of Shadow Hunters, and I did enjoy the cliffhanger at the end.
