Set in 1920s the Diviners is an amazing experience.

The characters and their quirks, stories and lives are the focus of this massive book. I did felt their struggles and I liked them all and couldn't find many negative aspects for the construction of characters. The only thing I need to point out is that I don't understand the reason for Evie and Jericho having a romantic plotline, it feels a bit contrived.
As for the killer, consistent for the most part, he felt predictable. It was a storyline I have seen before. It was a bother not being able to fully understand his motives, it just felt he knew something else. Perhaps it will be explored in future books.

The historical and supernatural elements were fantastic! The author did her research extremely well and it's a shame I can no longer view the website it was present in the book. I was curious to see what she found. :/

On the downside, the book was too long. Trying to craft a series is difficult but there was a lot of setup for the next book that after a while became dull and repetitive. Specially the set up for the hat man.
Also, the multiple POVs made the story disperse focus and it was a bother shifting between characters. When you felt you were connecting with that character you had to leave for something else, not always improving the narration. It would be better if the book focused only on two major characters and added something else when needed. In the end, it was a lot of characters to keep track off.

For the most part, the Diviners was a unique experience and I enjoyed the story that was created. A must read for fans of fantasy and historical fiction.
