The mists rule the night... The lord ruler owns the world. For a thousand years the ash fell. For a thousand years, the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years, the Lord Ruler reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Every attempted revolt has failed miserably. Yet somehow hope survives. A new kind of uprising is being planned, one that depends on the cunning of a brilliant criminal mastermind and the courage of an unlikely heroine, a Skaa street urchin, who must learn to master Allomancy, the power of a mistborn. What if the prophesied hero had failed to defeat the Dark Lord? The answer will be found in the Mistborn trilogy, a saga of surprises that begins here.

Docked half a star because I don't like the age difference between Vin and Elend. I have a strict boundary when it comes to minors dating grown men, idc "how close to 18" she is. Especially since Brandon Sanderson made it a point to correct her age from 16 to 17 in a conversation to probably try and make it less weird. But other than that? This was a fucking masterpiece and I can't believe I let the size of it intimidate me into not picking it up until now. I loved Vin's character development. And when it comes to characters established in who they are, Kelsier and Sazed were my favorites. Everyone was fleshed out beautifully and the story came to life immediately.
