It's been a year since Cassie Whelan “Emerged” as a powerful exohuman healer and she's finally feeling comfortable in her new role as a superhero. She and her boyfriend, Nate, are doing great and are even building a team of heroes to better protect and serve humanity. But it looks like Nate is a little too interested in their newest recruit, a beautiful blonde ice controller. On top of that, anti-exo bigots are picketing her home and the government is spying on her. Oh, and there’s also an invasion of dragons. From outer space. So… Yeah, she’s not having a great week. From the author of Burden of Solace, another chapter in the adventure and romance that is... The Starforce Saga

Richard L. Wright pulls us back into the world that he created for us in Book 1 of the Starforce Saga, Burden of Solace, not with a whimper, but a bang. A bang of the gavel, that is.

This book has Cassie and Nate navigating the US Congress for their rights as Exo-humans, introducing new people into their world and exploring their own relationship and what it means to them. As dynamics shift with Cassie and Nate on a personal note with the introduction of a new ice-wielding Exo, Torri, and Space Dragons (!!!) threaten not only themselves but the rest of the world, Cassie is less sure of all of the aspects of her life as they threaten the life that she's built for herself.

This was a great addition to the Starforce Saga, with only a bit of a nit-pick on how I just wanted a little more from Cassie, something a little deeper to show within the text from her inner turmoil as all of these external and internal issues slam against her psyche and home. While some of her responses fell a little flat, the cinematic-level battles for her, her friends and the world help to balance and pull you deep into the story.
