Enslaved at a young age Titus has known nothing but servitude and horrific torture. Through the years his thirst for revenge against King Augustus has festered, and after a single attempt on the King's life, he finds purpose in the pit of gladiators. There he waits and prays to have another chance at his oppressor, and when his prayers for revenge are answered by a mysterious woman named, Aurelia. She offers him a life he had only seen in dreams, but in return, his quest for revenge comes with an unfathomable price.

I'm not used to the Dark Fantasy or Psychological Horror genres. However, once I got past the violent and explicit scenes, the story was interesting enough to make my head turn and start asking philosophical and religious questions.
"A King Amongst Us" by A.D. Lewis is a short story, restricted to fifty-two pages, with the task of creating an island, its history, characters, and plot. Within its boundaries, I believe the author did a fair job.
