Bearded, bad-boy barber Knox prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon. Knox doesn’t tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded runaway bride. Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way… with fists and beer. Usually in that order. Too bad for Naomi her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now she’s stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home with an 11-year-old going on thirty to take care of. There’s a reason Knox doesn’t do complications or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble he can leave her alone and get back to his peaceful, solitary life. At least, that’s the plan until the trouble turns to real danger.

I jumped into this series after a co-worker raved about it, calling it a must-read. But honestly? I’m not sure I get the hype. Don’t get me wrong—the book is definitely entertaining! It’s got a little bit of everything: romance, family drama, action, and some pretty heavy themes. Oh, and it's spicy in all the right ways! It’s a solid read, but I wouldn’t put it in my 'essential' pile. That said, if the characters grab your attention, you might find yourself hooked on the rest of the series. There’s more depth and development waiting in the sequels for those curious enough to keep going!
WHY WAS THIS BOOK SO UNNECESSARILY LONG OMG YALL ARE CRAZY. Anyway here are my thoughts lol :
Pros
✰ I liked Knox's character better than Naomi tbh - his story was really interesting & seeing him be vulnerable was really sweet
✰ Only having one comment in the pros list should tell you how much I disliked this book lol
Cons
✰ Okay lets be real, this whole Tina drama was so stupid & unnecessary - like why did this book turn into a Mission Impossible movie at the end lmao
✰ I hate that the story didn't pick up for me until about 100 pages in
✰ Was so close to DNF-ing this so many times
Overall Thoughts
I can't believe I read 600 pages of the slowest romance ever. But I'll get Fomo if I don't read stuff from Booktok so here we are lol. It was definitely a struggle to finish this but I'm glad I got to see what the hype was all about - in conclusion, not worth it
P.S - Ms. Lucy can you pls write shorter books so I can give your stuff another chance lol
