Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just... wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm. The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy. Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone. Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her... and not destroy her.Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

While reading this book, I kept feeling like I was missing something but by the time I finished, I concluded that that was intentional.

There are events and people that are referenced that happened well before the events in this book that end up holding a lot of weight for the ending.

When it comes to the reveal of the traitor, I admittedly saw it coming. I had suspected the traitor on and off throughout the book as things would happen that would make me question my theory. But I would eventually go back to them. Hearing how the events before the book actually went down made me wonder just how similar things were between then and now, a Nephilim falling in love with a Fallen.

I also want to talk about Julian. JLA makes some great lead guys that I always end up loving. They are the types who don't really care about anyone else except for those they consider family, including the girl they love. And this guy does not disappoint. He willingly leaves the Nephilim alone after meeting Lily, not willing to risk losing her. And even when fingers are pointed at him, he stands firm and tries to plead innocent. But it's hard to fight against the words of a trusted friend when Julian is supposed to be the enemy.

I enjoyed this book and it feels like there should be more, maybe following Michael's story because the enemy is still out there and still planning. Though, I suppose when you are fighting against evil Nephilim and Fallen angels, it's kind of hard to end that fight. But with the books big bad still at large and still making plans with human politicians. Lily and Julian may have peace between them but there is still protecting Michael and defeating the big bad. I know this is supposed to be a standalone but JLA has built up so much of this world that it is hard to come to terms with the fact that there is no sequel or spin-off series.

I still recommend this book for JLA lovers who love their spice.
