    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

I’m struggling to write this review because in all honesty I’m incredibly disappointed. There is so much hype for these books and I feel like I’m missing something. Feyre (whose head I feel stuck in) is whiny, self centred and suffers from ‘look at me aren’t I so special’ syndrome. She is so powerful but never actually uses those powers effectively. There are only a few characters that truly die and they’re all side characters, the main characters are so protected by plot armour that those emotional moments are immediately erased by the time the author has described how they died. It made sense when Feyre was resurrected in the first book because without her there would be no series. Elaine’s trauma and the fact that she has had to say goodbye to a man that she truly loved (Fae hater or not) and is then expected to accept another mate just because Feyre accepted her mating bond.

Speaking of mates. I never want to read another book with the fated mates trope. It’s not for me and in all honesty it’s cringey and overdone in this book. There are so many instances where Feyre could have just called him Rhys or Rhysand…so many.

Now for the writing. It is badly written, loaded with unnecessary descriptions, unnecessary scenes and (-).

Feyre’s obsession with sex and relationships is juvenile, and I’m not talking about between her and Rhys though do we really have to know about every time they have sex? I’m referring to when she blows up at Mor after Mor quite rightly tells her to stop lying and actually let her, Az and Cassian protect her, and her response is “well you lie about Azriel and Cassian”. It’s such a narcissistic response and so childish.

Rant over. In conclusion I don’t think SJM’s writing is something I can get behind.
