Oh, man. I loved 'The Human Target, vol. 2.'
This volume, comprising Issues 7-12 of The Human Target, completes the tale of Christopher Chance. Chance is a body double, of sorts, who ingests a poison meant for Lex Luthor. Now, he has twelve days to live. All the members of the Justice League are suspects. And there's this dame.
What follows is a Brubaker-like noir with a whimsical DC twist. The art style is beautifully done Atomic Age, with many layouts so beautifully drawn that I had to force myself to refrain from interrupting my wife's own art to tell her, "Hey, look at this!" [Pro tip: one of many things that going into staying married for 32+ years is not interrupting your wife's activities to make her look at your comic books.]
The Human Target is a terrific noir mystery, a beautiful book to gaze upon, and a thoroughly satisfying way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I loved it. If you've read this far, I wager that you'll love it, too.
