When Averil saves a young man from a shipwreck, she thinks she feels the Soul Echo--the sign that the young human male is her one true mate. And the malevolent Sea Witch is all too happy to offer a deal that could make all her dreams come true. He wants her to win the prince's heart--even coaches her in the art of seduction. But what is the real price of the Sea Witch's help? Why is he more brutally beautiful--and charming--than Averil expected? I keep asking myself what possessed me to pick this up. The simple answer is TikTok. I don't even want to think about a more complicated answer for fear of unearthing deep psychological issues.

After reading a couple of high stakes, heavy on politics books, I felt like reading something silly and smutty/spicy/lemony (depending on your preferred lingo). There was certainly smut/spice/lemon. It was not that silly. I would categorise this book as "light" dark romance, which is not really my cup of tea at all.
To be fair, there's a list of trigger warnings, which is uncommon in the types of books I usually read, so that's on me for sure.

The plot is okay. It's actually an interesting spin on the classic fairytale we all know and love. I just wish that it hadn't been so creepy. Creepy is really the only word I can find to describe it. The Sea Witch is way too into her and kind of treats her horribly. I love me a good enemies to lovers but I'm pretty sure there's no coming back from what he did, but maybe that's just me.

But in all honesty, this book as no business being more that 400 pages long. The plot is not that intense. It all felt incredibly drawn out. 300 tops. That would have been perfect.

Other than that the dialogue was very on the nose at times and the two main characters both have sudden epiphanies that change their respective minds about the situation they're both in. I was not able to suspend enough disbelief in order to by it.

If you're into dark romances then it's worth a shot reading this, if not then skip it.
