This was a solid sequel for the events of Leviathan. I enjoyed the political schemes and the different sides of this alternative universe of WWI. Scott Westerfeld is really good at involving you in this story. The world he built is by far the most interesting aspect of this series and he was able to expand it even more on this second installment.
On the downside, I feel the romance between Derryn and Alek brings nothing to the story and drags the pace. Also, the secrets are ridiculous, no one is able to keep them and they are very obvious and easily discovered by others. It is suppose to be another focus of tension but it only becomes a plot device that drags the story down.
I enjoyed this novel and I can't wait to see how it ends.
