At CERN, a scientist has just made an incredible discovery – a breakthrough that may answer the deepest questions about human existence. But what he's found is far more dangerous than he ever imagined. Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely? As Ty peels back the layers of his discovery, he learns that what he's found isn't what he thought it was. The encoded message is far more profound. It may alter our understanding of human existence and the universe. But Ty is not the only one looking for it. Someone has been following his research for a long time. And they'll do anything to prevent him from unravelling what is being broadcast by the quantum radio... Because the first one to discover the truth may well control the future.

Quantum Radio is a fun sci-fi thriller. This story is what I would call hard science fiction. We're not making a few small jumps to suspend disbelief here; we're diving head-first into quantum physics to carry out a story that, at many junctures, feels too contrived. This story relies on quite a few fantastic coincidences for characters being in the right (or wrong) places at the wrong times. The first half of this story really captivated me. Tyson Klein makes a breakthrough scientific discovery, only to shortly thereafter find himself in a world of trouble. It's a break-neck pace that keeps you turning the pages. The story reaches what feels like a first climax around halfway through, and then... well, it feels like it undergoes a complete makeover. It becomes a deep dive into an alternate historical fiction, in a world where our very history is drastically changed. It didn't lose me, but it felt like it morphed its identity a bit. And without revealing anything as a spoiler, I will just say that the ultimate resolution of the story might have the reader saying... "Really? That worked?" I think A.G. Riddle wrote a fun story here. I think it lost its way at times, and I wasn't totally satisfied with the ending. But it was a fun read. 71% Derek Dragonfruits! 🐉🍉

Stargate Meets The One. There really is a lot to love about this book, and the fact that it has elements of two scifi movies that I personally love (one which became a cult classic, the other of which has largely been forgotten) was more icing on the cake and something I could use in this review to give an idea of the scope of this book without actually revealing any spoilers. If you like either of the IPs I listed in the title here, you're likely going to enjoy this more hard-scifi (ish) take on them, where Riddle manages to ground them at least somewhat more in actual reality... and yet still tell an intruging tale of family, secrets, and how far a person will go within the scope of what he has set up. Truly an excellent setup here, and apparently even Riddle himself doesn't yet know how long he'll take this series - but I for one can't wait to see where he takes it next. Will it be a Stargate type? Quantum Leap type? Something truly novel and groundbreaking? Riddle's talent as a storyteller - shown well in this very book - alone says the next book will be good. I challenge him to make it truly, truly *great*. Very much recommended.
