    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

This was a huge disappointment. I was looking forward to reading a bit about a non-traditional sport and athlete and have a nice tropical getaway. Instead I read about a woman who spent her vacation on a beautiful island going to a surfing competition and never really seeing the sights or even relaxing too much.

One of the first things that bothered me was the reference to Alex's age, over and over, and how he was too young for Victoria. Ummm...I don't recall if her exact age is mentioned but it seemed like she was in her early 40s. Now, that age gap makes a difference when you have a 15 year old and a 20 year old. It does NOT make a difference here and would have never been an issue had their gender been reversed. Plus, Tori thought about Alex's stamina and how young guys can keep going and going. Again, he's 35...not 25. It was strange and off-putting.

Then there was their "dirty" talk. This was much worse between Alex and Tori than it was between her and Ben. It was like they were reading from a bad script. It was truly cringe-worthy. When they were all together it still seemed forced, but not quite so bad.

This was really a book that "told" me what the characters were feeling yet made no effort to "show" me those feelings. And I was told over and over and over. I really never felt it at all.

Honestly, my favorite character was a bit character we barely see at all. Whitney was smart, had a good head on her shoulders, was non-judgmental, and pretty. I wish this book would have been about her fling with Cade instead.

As much as I've enjoyed the majority of Jaci Burton's books, it seems her novellas just never do it for me.
