There are three things you need to know about Sandra Fielding: 1) She makes all her first dates cry, 2) She hasn't been kissed in over two years, and 3) She knows how to knit. Sandra has difficulty removing her psychotherapist hat. Of her last 30 dates, 29 have ended the same way: the man sobbing uncontrollably. After one such disaster, Sandra gives in to a seemingly harmless encounter with her hot waiter, Alex. Argumentative, secretive, and hostile Alex may be the opposite of everything Sandra knows is right for her. But now, the girl who has spent all her life helping others change for the better, must find a way to cope with falling for someone who refuses to change at all. Love Hacked is book #3 in the Knitting in the City series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the misadventures and exploits of seven friends in Chicago, all members of the same knitting group.

This is hands down my favorite in the series so far! Sandra completely surprised me—after her appearances in the other books, I was expecting a bold and confident character, but she turned out to be surprisingly shy. It was such an unexpected twist, and I loved seeing that softer side of her. As for Alex, I was hooked from the start! He was such a standout character, and I honestly just wanted more of them together. Their chemistry was electric, and I found myself wishing for extra chapters just to soak in more of their story!
I started this book because it was the next in the series by Penny Reid, whose books have been hit or miss for me. This one was a miss, unfortunately.
I liked Sandra's character, she seemed fun and smart, but I just couldn't get behind Alex. Sure, hot and mysterious and brooding is all well and good, but Sandra/the reader just can't get any information about him at all. It's very frustrating to both her and me to be struggling, and for me it was not something I was willing to put up with anymore. I put the book down around 55% when other items became available, and I picked it up today again and read another chapter or two when they finally first have sex, and it came across as really creepy! Sandra is literally telling Alex to wait and to hold on and he is literally not stopping and is 'batting her hands away' to be able to proceed. I get the lust and the finally giving in, but Sandra has a good point that she then ignores: his previous reasons are all still valid, and also he has not clued her in about his past and she still doesn't really know much about him, which is preventing the emotional intimacy. So this scene didn't come off as sexy to me, just pushy and physical, without emotional payoff. .
I still have the ebook checked out for a couple more weeks, so I may finish if I'm bored at some point, but not going to TRY to make it happen.
