The Simple Life (Hometown Love, #1)

Tara Sivec

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

*A standalone romantic comedy with a lot of heart* Brooklyn Manning thought her life was perfect in every way, until it crumbled down around her and turned into a dumpster fire. With her pride wounded and her tail tucked between her legs, she leaves New York and goes back to her tiny hometown of White Timber, Montana. No more twenty-four-hour taco trucks, no more shopping at the best designer stores within walking distance, no more giving taxi drivers the finger when they angrily honk at her. She didn’t think it could get any worse. But then Clint Hastings walked into the room and insulted her. Her arch nemesis from high school is no longer a nerdy computer whiz, masturbating to pictures in PC World magazine in his free time (allegedly). He’s grown up to be a hot-as-hell cowboy, and she has no other choice but to be a smart ass right back to him. After all, it’s what they do. It’s what they’ve always done, and twelve years apart hasn’t changed anything. Only this time, getting under each other’s skin is a hell of a lot more fun than it used to be.

Dear God!! If one could get fired for inappropriately laughing at work, I would have lost my job listening to this book.
I always expect some really good laughs in a Tara Sivec book but this one really went above and beyond. I also learned a new definition to a word that was more than a bit disturbing but also hysterical. I tend to love the hate to love stories especially when they revolve around small towns and a best friends' older sibling.
Brooklyn left Montana as soon as she graduated from high school. She had no intention of staying in nowhere Montana, population 1000. After all, everyone knew every humiliating thing that ever happened to her.
Clint left Montana too but came back when his first child was born. California was not for him. He was no longer a nerd but a rugged cowboy working his family farm.
Cookie Brookie and Cunty Clint were always at one anothers' throats. When Brooklyn comes home, humiliated, she finds herself working for Clint. As they spar, they start to realize maybe there is something there that they need to explore.
Clint's kids are hysterical. Mia and her sugar addiction would have made the book but the sparring is excellent.
I loved that there was no huge amount of drama. There were plenty of laughs, the right amount of steam, and a town pool on when they would sleep together.
I love a book that makes me snort laugh, has really good characters, and is a relatable story.
