1988. Charleston, South Carolina. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. . But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act… different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries - and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil? Like an unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist, My best Friend's Exorcism blends teen angst, adolescent drama, unspeakable horrors, and a mix of '80s pop songs into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller.
As someone who typically reads audiobooks, I am really liking the mixed media inclusions in the ebook! First off there's a Spotify playlist to go along with the reading which is super fun. (Unfortunately, it is too short for me, I definitely cannot read 330 pages in 2 hours! Lol) There are also images from what appears to be a yearbook, as well as a newspaper article, a satanic panic pamphlet, the student code of conduct, etc. As for the book itself, it's very slow and atmospheric, building up the rapport of the friendship between Gretchen and Abby, and then the ✨summer vibes✨. At 25% things are just starting to happen plot wise. And it's getting weird. Not in a bad way, I'm definitely excited to see what kind of Satanic Panic thriller this turns into!!

I think overall it was rather predictable for an exorcism book. I absolutely loved the ridiculousness of the Lemon Brothers. I enjoyed the ending in that it wasn't all tied up pretty with ribbons and bows, but was very realistic as to how friendships can ebb and flow through adulthood.
