I really enjoyed this novel, it was well-written and easy to read. This is the first time I’ve read a book where the majority of the story takes place within the same day, however this concept was done well, it did not drag out and there was not really any unnecessary scenes included, everything said was relevant to the way the story played out. I had not read any of this series before but I did not feel like I had to. The main character, John Corey, was introduced at the beginning and within the first handful of chapters had provided the reader with a brief summary of his CV and life to date, including the various departments he has worked for and a little about marriage, his wife, and an incident that obviously took place in a previous instalment. I can see that this may be a bit tedious of a read for those familiar with the character but for someone jumping in this far into a series it was good to quickly understand the character, the important elements of their past and what led them to their current predicament. The rest of the characters were well written, but nonetheless, not enough to connect with them emotionally or really remember them in the future. Overall, this was a good and pleasant novel, and I would happily read more from this series or by this author in the future.
