It was good and I had a very fun time reading it...minus certain parts which I won’t mention because they made me way too sad. I really wanted to give the book 4 stars but in the end settled on 3. I may change my mind tomorrow seeing as how I just finished it but it feels a bit...incomplete? I feel like it had the potential to be a bit better than it was. Also the romance seemed lacking to me and that is solely because - and I don’t know if this is something lost in translation or not - we didn’t have a lot of Jing Qi’s thoughts about being at least infatuated with Wu xi. It was clear to see that he was fond of him and that he regarded him as a very intelligent person, was even in awe of his thoughts/maturity at times but I would have liked to see Jing Qi more taken with Wu xi, more I don’t know, in love? I think that would have strengthened their relationship a bit more. But they’re happy and together and that’s all that matters in the end!
I don’t regret picking this up and I will most likely read other works by Priest in the future as well!
