This portrayal of a marriage is art--tender, fraught, full of empathy and strangeness. Beautiful prose and an expert narrator guides and manipulates how we understand Mathilde and Lotto, and ultimately, how we can never know one another fully. Truly one of my favorite books.
0Only listened to about half, perhaps just over; barely gotten into the woman's perspective. Listened to audio, found it slow, didn't care for the male character, felt like not much plot was happening.
Went to fiction book club at main library 1/3/18, apparently most others quite liked it and it got more exciting in second half. I wasn't in the mood for this style or character exploration at the time. Plus I didn't leave myself enough time to read, was busy with holidays and travel.
