Every Thursday after work, software developer Gerald Nakamura goes to Leslieville Craft Beer to “socialize”. In other words, he sits in a room full of people and reads a book, resenting the noise. Occasionally, he exchanges a few words with the cute bartender, Kelsey Rye. As months go by, their conversations get longer and her excited rambling makes him smile. They start texting each other, and he even meets up with her when she gets a second job at Dick’s Donuts, which sells donuts that are literally shaped like…you know. Gerald doubts she wants anything more than what they have - they’re too different. But as the year draws to a close, he wonders if he should take a chance and finally tell her how he feels…
