There is something I’m learning about this author…I cannot start one of her books at bedtime. Just like with the first book in this series, Loving Cara, I stayed up far too late reading this story. In fact, I started the book and didn’t stop reading until it was over. I just love this author’s writing.

Jillian and Zack both have baggage. They both readily admit that fact and they both worry about how that can hurt any relationship they try to have. The draw is too strong between them, though, and they can’t stay away from each other. Since they have known each other most of their lives and have the same group of friends, their lives fit together quite easily.

One of the sweetest things in this story is the relationship between Jillian and Zack’s son Seth. They were already friends because of the whole friend circle, but as Jillian spends more time with Seth their bond grows. Especially because of having similar experiences with their moms. Seth’s willingness to open up to Jillian helped her maternal feelings for him bloom. In most cases, I would have a problem with the level of connection between the two of them. But because of the things Seth has been through it makes sense that he latched onto Jillian.

The way Zack’s parents take the whole friend group into their fold is beautiful. They are all truly one family and those feeling really come off the page to give the reader feelings of contentment during their scenes.

Be warned, there a whole heck of a lot of emotions in this book. I laughed, cried, and got very angry. Most of all, I cheered this couple on the whole time.
