Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, with each chapter dealing with a different pain. Healing a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them -- because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

2.5 stars? There are many beautiful moments within this collection, but she focuses entirely on abstractions. She is at her best when she gets specific, but that doesn't happen often. I think she would be incredibly powerful performing spoken word, but a lot of it translated to melodrama on the page. I'm definitely happy I read it, but I felt like she was extracting emotion out of me rather than me naturally feeling for her. All that being said, I think people who are new to poetry would like it, and I did mark a bunch of the poems.

"Ever since I heard about this book and saw its beautiful cover I knew I wanted it and I knew I had to have it. I also read some of it in Target once in December and instantly fell in love and was on the hunt for a cheaper one ever since. the poems were deep and even though lots were short they spoke very deeply about men and women and relationships and love. It was split into four sections: the hurting, the loving, the breaking, and the healing. I want to review each section with you guys." Okay I don't normally write reviews really so bare with me here.

Honestly just wow. I didn't know it was possible for one book to make me feel so many emotions in one sitting. I read this so fast and I am going to continue to reread it so many more times because how could I not.

The pure emotion that I felt throughout this entire book and the way the author was able to put my feelings into words in a way I have never seen before was truly amazing. I was in tears within the first couple poems from this book and really have no other way to describe this or the way it made me feel.

"it is your blood in my veins tell me how im supposed to forget"

" a daughter should not have to beg her father for a relationship."

you look just like your mother i guess i do carry her tenderness well cause we are both exhausted and the hands we share the same wilting fingers but that rage your mother doesn't wear that anger. you're right this rage is the one thing I get from my father."
