Sparks fly between a PR rep and an A-list actor who want nothing to do with each other. Leni Steele might be looking for love, but she’s definitely not looking to be someone’s fake date. Especially not one of the most infuriatingly handsome and annoyingly cocky actors on the planet, Duncan Raz. But when the owner of the PR firm for which she works forces her to walk the red carpet on his arm, she has no choice. Neither wants to be there, much less with each other. They’re like oil and water, and he gets on her last nerve. But after a few tequila shots, that’s not all he gets on. What was supposed to be one date turns into a media frenzy they can’t afford to ignore, and Leni has no other option than to continue the ruse. All the fake kisses furtive glances, and seductive touches eventually start to feel very real. But Raz didn’t earn his A-list-actor status for nothing. Is he just doing what he does best? Playing a role? Or is Leni the leading lady in Raz’s real-life love story?

Both of these characters are wonderful people. It’s set us so Leni believes Duncan aka Raz to be an egotistical movie star who doesn’t care for anything but his wants and needs. She eventually discovers that they merely got off on the wrong foot and Duncan is actually extremely caring, thoughtful, and feels things deeply. He’s actually a lot like Leni, but she has a lot of walls up around her heart.
Leni is always in control…of her emotions, her career, of her love life (or lack thereof). One of the reasons Duncan scares her is he makes her feel out of control. He controls her body, he insinuates himself into her life even when she thinks she’s too busy to see him, she tells him things she never shares. Duncan realizes this and is respectful of her boundaries while also nudging at them.
I love how carefree and natural this pair is with each other. Their ease with one another carries over into the bedroom where they light things on fire. Neither can seem to be too in their head when they are intimate. Yet as soon as things wind down those doubts and fears come roaring back.
This author doesn’t do big third-act breakup stories. But because this is a fake relationship book you know there is an end date to this romance. Both Leni and Duncan often bring up the fact with one another that it’s fake or it’ll be over soon and they can get back to their real lives. They do this to protect their hearts, but instead they hurt each other every time it’s mentioned.
I was looking forward to visiting Silver Island so it was a surprise that they didn’t go there for quite a while. Especially considering the title of the book. Fear not, they eventually visit the island and all of the characters you know and love are there to keep things fun.
