Recs if you like Blacksad...

These are some of my favorite comic series adapted as graphic novel series that don't come from Marvel or DC and don't involve a bunch of superpowered humans or aliens beating each other up. There is some aliens beating up other aliens in a few of these comics but they're more barfight-level than world-saving fisticuffs.

Notable comics, graphic novels and mangas to get into the genre. This format of books is so underrated, so I wanted to create a diverse list of notable works across the history of 'comics'! I tried to highlight nonfiction and fiction works that are recognizable to the widest variety of people (mostly because of their adaptation), while also adding less widely known books. The goal of the list is to help find at least one 'comic' you want read, if you don't really read 'comics'! (inspired by Les 1001 BDs by Trécarré)

I know there are some comic book lists out there, but I was thinking about making a list of comic book series I think people should not miss (or books I would put in a Starte Pack type quest). I am excluding graphic novels and focusing on multiple-volume comics. I am only adding the first volume of each.

All genres, all demographics, all furries. (Some of these have a bite, please research contents warnings)

From sarcastic strays to magical familiars and mysterious midnight companions, this list celebrates whiskered heroes who quietly (or dramatically) steal every scene they’re in. Expect heart, humor, soft paws, sharp claws, and at least one emotional ambush.
