Atlas (Hel's Ink #2)

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

“I said, marry me.” Atlas- Lauren Locklear. She has no idea that I would do anything for her. She doesn’t understand the mountains I would climb just to keep her safe. That’s okay though, I’ll make sure she does. She thinks she’s weak, and given the lack of love and support from those closest to her, I can understand why. That changes now, I will make her see the strong woman I see when I look at her. I’ve pined for her in secret, wanting nothing more than to show her what she could have. But with my past still haunting me, I knew it would be best to stay back. That is, until she needs access to health insurance and I see a solution to both her problem and my dilemma. All she has to do is say yes. Ren- I’ve done something stupid. Something reckless. Something everyone will judge me for and I’m risking everything. My family. My career. Myself. I’m always too much to handle and the men I’ve allowed into my life have always reminded me of my shortcomings, even when it’s their fists doing the reminding. No one has ever truly cared for me, loved me. And then Atlas Hart asks me to marry him in order to save my life. This isn’t love. It’s barely a friendship, or so I thought. But as the days go by and I see what he so selflessly risks for me, I cannot help but think that maybe… this could be more.

Oh Atlas! I knew there was something-something about him from Book #1, but I fell so deeply in love with him in this book. And Lauren - I swear she is 98% me (plus-sized, smart, trying to please the parents, body-shamed and uncomfortable in her own skin). But she also throughout this book learns through the gentle love of Atlas that she does have worth and learns to stand on her own with him at her back.

This story is such a great representation of rising above your circumstances and reaching out to your found family for help when you need it. Lauren with her diabetes needed someone to help watch out for her and Atlas teaching himself about what she needed? Priceless! Atlas needed someone to understand where he came from and want him anyway. His mother is only a mother in that she gave birth to him, otherwise she's a monster. But I loved, love, loke everything about these two, they just make me squee with how sweet they are together. Who cares if no one else gets it, but he is all alpha for her and she is all squishy for him. Perfect!

This book is just of full pure feels, and I finished it wanting to crawl right back in. I was not expecting to cry while reading this book but here I am. This was the sweetest story ever. Ren and Atlas are these two broken souls who finally find what their missing in each other. They both have been hot for each other for years and finally through necessity come together to over come their past traumas and baggage (holy trust issues, batman), but they work through it because they're just meant to be.

Atlas? Total swoon-worthy hero and he is the biggest spicy cinnamon roll. The constant compliments and the way he makes Ren feel like a queen – it's all pure boyfriend goals. Plus, the way he supports her with her diabetes? Amazing, especially considering his dyslexia. Seriously, this guy is too good to be true.

Overall, this book is a total win. The characters are real, the story is emotional, and the ending? Perfection. Dj Krimmer, you're a genius! Can't wait for the next book.
