Warning: this book ends on a cliffhanger. Its is the first book in a 5 book series following Noelle and Rafael. Both Noelle and Rafael come from mafia families. And both were essentially sold to this one cruel boss. Noelle as his wife and Rafael as a prisoner. Years have passed and the cruel boss is dead, but Noelle and Rafael still suffer from their time at ‘the hacienda’. Rafael blames Noelle for all the pain and misery he suffered as well as for the death of the woman he loved. So he embarks on a mission of revenge. And that mission ends with him taking her as a wife. Once he gets control of her, he plans to really get his revenge. But things change when he realizes that the past isn’t what he believes.
Pay attention to the content warnings at the beginning of the book because the people in this book are not nice, and they do terrible things with each other. In the end, Rafael does realize how wrong he was about Noelle. So I’m hoping the next book will be him trying to make amends for how he treated her. I need serious graveling. But as the usual with these kinds of books, it basically ends up annoying me that no matter how he treated her, she still felt this attraction to him, and still felt herself falling for him. I don’t get that. But let’s just go with it for the sake of the book. For now.
