This is the life I choose to live, and right now, it is more tumultuous than ever. There is a mole in my organization, and I am determined to find out exactly who it is. Have we put our trust in the wrong people? Am I destined to make my father's mistakes? We have more questions than answers, and with Sean struggling to find his place within our group, I know the only way forward is through a united front. Raiding Anton's warehouse yields surprising additions to our little family, leaving me more determined to end this war as quickly as possible. With Kadence's help, I'm confident we can end this once and for all. But what happens when dark secrets and fresh betrayals are exposed, and I'm forced to make a decision I never wanted to make? Will I stand tall and be the Queen this city needs... or will I become just another monster lurking in the shadows?

I've accepted a long time ago that I'm overly emotional, especially when it involves fictional characters. I'm deeply embedded with them and invested in them; their heartbreak is my heartbreak. So saying that this book broke my heart basically tells you what Layla goes through in this book. There are very few people that she can trust and over the course of the book, that number gets smaller. She also has to keep at least the illusion of control, so she's forced to make some choices that really, really hurt.
There's a doozy of a cliffhanger at the end of this one, so be ready with the next book IMMEDIATELY. Keep your tissues close if you even a little bit emotional, it's a bumpy ride.
