One and Only (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #1)

Jenny Holiday

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Miss Responsibility meets Mr. Reckless With her bridezilla friend on a DIY project rampage, bridesmaid Jane Denning will do anything to escape - even if it means babysitting the groom's troublemaker brother before the wedding. It should be a piece of cake, except the "cake" is a sarcastic former soldier who is 100% wicked hotness and absolutely off-limits. Cameron MacKinnon is ready to let loose after returning from his deployment. But first he'll have to sweet talk the ultra-responsible Jane into taking a walk on the wild side. Turns out, riling her up is the best time he's had in years. But what happens when the fun and games start to turn into something real?

There is nothing more soul destroying than not managing to properly get into a book that you so desperately hoped you’d adore? It is, once again, a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. I really did enjoy the characters, the writing is fabulous, the plot is overall enjoyable... but it just felt like there was something missing. I just couldn’t get into it and I wasn’t enjoying it; the story was missing the ‘thing’ that would suck me straight in. I don’t truthfully know what it is that it’s lacking, but I’m really disappointed that I didn’t like it more!

I loved the writing, the plot was okay, the characters were decent enough... but something about it all was just missing a spark. I just couldn't become gripped into the story; I didn't have enough interest in the characters at all and the plot seemed to be massively lacking. It just didn't seem that there were a lot of things happening and so I struggled to keep interested in it. In the end I ended up skipping through a lot of it. I've rated it two stars because of a few character traits which I loved, the unique-ness of the male character and the writing!

A pity I didn't like this one more, but I'll definitely give the author another go! It probably literally is just that the book didn't fit. The writing was fantastic, so it isn't an author compatibility thing. If the plot appeals to you please give it a go; I genuinely do just think it was me being overly critical.
