Nalini Singh

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Nalini Singh steps back into the shadows of her “heartbreakingly original”* world where angels rule, vampires serve, and the innocent can pay the greatest price of all… Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil… A vampire has attacked a girls’ school—the assault one of sheer, vicious madness—and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders. The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear. An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed… *Errant Dreams Reviews

I am really loving this series! So far book 1 is still my favorite, but this was still really enjoyable! I love being with these characters and world. It's such a unique world and take on classic paranormal archetypes. Like with book 2, I felt the the conclusion of this was slightly anti-climactic (especially since in this case it was so open ended). But I feel like this book set up some really interesting arcs for the future books! I can't wait to see how some of the things that were revealed come into play down the line! Book 4 is happening in March and I can't wait!

This series is never going to be one of my favourites because I don't really like Raphael all that much, but it is still a good solid read. Stronger plot than the last one.
