[2.5] i thought this was a really cute idea for a cosy christmas book; the setting and the vibes just matched perfectly!! while it was a bit confusing at first, the use of a story within another story really appealed to me, and i think it was a clever device used by jostein gaardner - maybe to add to the feeling that the reader was just like the child, in that they were being told this story. i would have preferred for a few more things to be wrapped up by the end of the book, it seemed like there were some details the author forgot about at some stages, which was a bit annoying but oh well.
