3.75⭐️ This was a very strong follow up to a first in a book and for many reasons. The magic and the world continues to build and there’s even talk of a deck of cards and it actually makes sense to the magic! And there is a lot of relatability in regards to the current events today as far as police brutality goes and excessive force. I didn’t care for the romance, book 1 set it up for one thing and then we just randomly switch it up but like suuuper under developed. There was some more action and some more revelations that happened in book 2 and a hint of what to look for in book 3, which of course I will read because this is just a really colorful and beautiful world Older has created.
