They killed the king. They pinned it on two men. They chose poorly. There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend.

I really enjoyed this! It's a very "classic" fantasy story. The setting is classic, the characters are classic. Generic may even be a good word here, but I still thought it was fun. It's a little slow at parts, but it was still fun. It wasn't too heavy or difficult to understand either, which is something that made me afraid to read adult fantasy stories for a long time.
This also has one of my favorite tropes, though I'm not sure if it has an actual name. I call it the "reluctant companion" trope. Basically where someone is dragged along on a trip and they're reluctant about it. Usually they complain and are hilarious, and it's extra fun when they're prissy and don't want to sleep in dirt and stuff. So I really enjoyed that aspect of this. I also quite like Royce and Hadrian, their relationship, their banter. They're a great pair, so I look forward to reading more of their adventures together.
