For people who are interested in a long-term challenge to read all of the Booker Prize longlisted books, but before 2001 there were only shortlisted books so I am going to separate these into two different lists. Lives of outsiders rendered in sharp prose style. Descendants of Shelley, the Brontes, and Woolf; forebears to 'Weird Girl Lit'. Title refers to the authors, the subjects of the work may not always be women. Focused on novels published between WW2 and 9/11, with a few memoirs and short story collections.

A German word for a novel following the growth and maturing throughout a feminine artist's whole life, not just a coming of age! Often semi- or fully autobiographical. I discovered this word through a poem by Ocean Vuong and finding the feminization of the word! please feel free to suggest more! and i am use the word feminine here not as a direct antonym to masculinity (boy vs girl), but rather an exploration of stories outside of the cisgender male artists' stories.

Novels where the narrators are women who describe their world and thoughts about it through entirely their own lens that is ultimately pessimistic and self-indulgent. They seem a bit off to everyone around them and commonly exist in a bell jar “stewing in” their “own sour air” (The Bell Jar, of course).
