Recs if you like An African American and Latinx History of the United States (ReVisioning History)...

history you probably didn't learn in school

What I was taught does not explain the world as I am witnessing it. So I compiled this list as a personal curriculum for histories that are critical of empire and capitalism, and actually shows us how we got here.

The list is not comprehensive, but I hope it helps people identify the gaps in their own historical education!

All of these are from the list that Texas lawmaker Matt Krause in October of 2021 tried and in many cases succeeded to get banned from classrooms and school libraries. There are quite a few interesting and odd choices in there which is part of why I wanted to share this list on here. Not necessarily recommendations but there are some pretty good books on here. As well as a lot of textbooks

History repeats, and most of us need an education.

Includes classics on American history & contemporary looks at the many -ism’s that consume us. Some microhistories are also thrown in. See them as case studies.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Feel free to comment other titles!

Supreme Leader has opened a new library for minions to peruse and keep up with all recs off the podcast 🚨 🚨

In October 2021, Texas State Representative Matt Krause initiated an inquiry targeting a list of approximately 850 books in Texas public schools, alleging they could cause "discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress" regarding race or sex. The list disproportionately targeted LGBTQ+ topics, race/racism, and sex education.

This is my project to read through this list for myself - utilizing my local library system for access to these titles. Follow the journey or join along!

Non-fic on how we got here and how to sustain eachother going forwards. A mix of difficult history, revolutionary and abolitionist works, and optimistic pathworking. Decolonial and anti-imperialist at the core.

Ongoing list! I will try to encompass as much as I can, pls lmk if there are poignant titles to add

Must reads for our current times…
