Just Date and See

Portia MacIntosh

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Billie is looking forward to a quiet, man-free Christmas. It’s just a shame her family doesn't feel the same way… With a house full of unexpected (and unwanted) guests, Billie needs to find the perfect escape to get away from the chaos. So when her dating app recommends a week of singles nights in her area, Billie decides that braving these events has to be better than making conversation with her dad’s new wife, dealing with her mum's mid-life crisis or witnessing her sister flirting with her insufferably arrogant next-door neighbour. While this is definitely not the festive season she had planned, between disco bowling and boozy bingo, little does Billie know that she may find love this year after all - she'll just have to date and see... Fall in love with the perfect laugh-out-loud festive read from top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh.

Billie is single for the holidays and decides to sign up for a week of dating ("matcher") events - it's a good thing too because all of a sudden, her divorced parents, step mother, sister, AND ex-boyfriend have shown up for the holidays. Thank goodness she can get away and meet Rocco - who makes the events a little more fun for her.

This is the first book that I read from Portia MacIntosh and the only reason why I knocked it from a 5 star to 4 star rating is because her writing style is not my favorite. I love the story that she created, the eclectic mix of characters, and I kept going between swooning over the building chemistry between Rocco & Billie to chuckling at the insanity that was ensuing with the "family".

It's a very cute story and will be enjoyable by those that want a good laugh at a holiday scenario that is quite relatable - I also love that she ended the book feeling like there could be another Billie & Rocco adventure. Even if there isn't a second book, it's easy to imagine what could happen...

Just Date and See was such a cute Christmas romcom. As someone who has a huge loud Christmas, as much as Billie hated it, I loved watching Billie's family have a big loud Christmas together. I found Rocco and Billie's dating app activities adventures so fun, and I loved watching them compete and mess with each other because of their attraction to each other. I didn't like how there were some jumps in the story, especially in parts that sounded fun. Overall, I loved the writing in this story and found the story to be fun and enjoyable while reading. I was shocked by the twist at the end, but I didn't enjoy that there wasn't too much talk about the elephant in the room. And then to just skip a year in the future and not talk about that BIG taboo topic?! I didn't love that, but I loved Billie and Rocco's chemistry so much that I'm just going to forget it.

The book overall was a real good laugh out loud book with Billie going on dates and meeting Rocco. And then learning that Rocco is her step-sibling and they still end up getting together. The book as well didn’t consist of her dating and seeing as much as I’d hope as it mainly was about her family and the drama that’s happening. I think Billie and Rocco only attended 3 events hosted by the dating app they’ve been using and then had one date on their own accord (this was before finding out that they were step-siblings). So there really wasn’t much dating happening. </spoiler>
