TRUST It's the most fragile concept ever created. Built over time. Shown through actions. Tested with loyalty. And broken when hit with the smallest pebble. My family trusted him. š˜ trusted him despite something deep in my core knowing he would be my downfall. The destruction of Wonderland. Now, I'm at his mercy. Forced on a bent knee and made to listen to the side of a story I don't want to hear. Because despite our past, despite what we believe or what we want, there's only one throne, one crown-and even through the looking glass, I can see there isn't room for the both of us.

What an end to a fun, dark duet.

Something I noticed right away was that this book is mostly told from Onyx’s perspective. Which of course had me enraged because NOW I want to hear what Mr. Z has to say. But, similar to book 1, we get flashbacks when we have Ezekial’s perspective and we get to see how he grew up and why he is the way he is. Again we get to see some of the side characters' povs.

Something I thought that was really strong in this book was the idea of found family. Onyx has really been through it but we can see how much those that are around her care for her and they really represent the found family trope considering she really only has 1 family member left who isn’t really involved in the story to be honest. So with the multi povs you really get the vibes of found family.

We also get to see more of what happened between Onyx and Z while they were working together so we can see how their feelings were growing. I WISH more of this was in the first book and I also wish there were more of these scenes in this book because I still have a hard time believing that Miss Heart of Steel just let some bodyguard in.

There was a lot of tension throughout the book because of what happened in the previous book…obviously… but I almost wish there would’ve been some more groveling or I don’t know, something. I kind of feel like she was trusting again way too quickly. Again this could just be my own trust issues coming through but ya know, it’s my opinion so.

I did enjoy the book and really liked the universe. I liked seeing them come together and the end was cute. I’m looking forward to the novellas that are going to be released in the same universe because they were all fun.
