Nesbø does it again. Intricately plotted, with intriguing and fun characters, a plot that moves like a bullet, hitting all its targets, and incredibly cohesive thematically. It also features some of his best prose so far; his descriptive images are becoming better and better.
Eleven Hole-books (and some others) and I still haven't outsmarted him thoroughly. I can't say that about any other crime/mystery writer. It was a joy to spend a few days in his Oslo, with these characters trying to find yet another serial killer. Sure, you've seen these tropes and these kinds of stories before, but Nesbø elevates them to something close to art with great characters and through discussions of his themes. Simply a joy to read.
